400th Anniversary of the Battle of Lutter am Barenberge

On 27th August exactly 400 years ago, one of the greatest battles of the Thirty Years' War took place not far from our company headquarters.

In the Battle of Lutter in 1626, the Protestant forces under Danish King Christian IV clashed with the Emperor’s Catholic army, commanded by the famous Field Marshal Johann T’Serclaes von Tilly. The Catholic victory later led to the end of the Danish-Lower Saxon phase of the Thirty Years’ War.

To commemorate this significant event, the Salder Castle Municipal Museum will open a special exhibition at the Tillyhaus in Salzgitter-Bad on 22nd August 2026.

A unique memento of the battle was issued in 1920 in the form of an emergency banknote by the Volksbank Lutter am Barenberge.
