Brand-new commemorative coin featuring the “Blue Wave” of Curaçao

The 2026 World Cup stands out from other tournaments not only because it is the first in history to be co-hosted by three countries, but also because it features a very special participant: Curaçao. The team from this small Caribbean island, also known as “The Blue Wave,” is making its World Cup debut. Furthermore, Curaçao is the smallest country to have ever qualified for the World Cup finals.

In honor of the national team, the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten has now issued this colored 50 cents commemorative coin. The obverse features the “Blue Wave,” while the reverse depicts native tellin shells (Arcopagia fausta).

Curaçao and Sint Maarten are both constituent countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and share the Caribbean guilder, introduced in 2025, as their currency.
