Syria has introduced a new banknote series
As part of Syria’s reconstruction following the civil war and the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad in 2024, the interim government also implemented a currency reform. The new Syrian pound banknotes were unveiled in December 2025 and introduced in early 2026. The exchange rate for the old pound notes is 100 to 1.
For the first time in the country’s history, all banknotes are dedicated to local plants and animals. The back sides feature the Central Bank building in Damascus.
