The award-winning first banknote of the Caribbean guilder
Last year, the two Caribbean island countries of Curaçao and Sint Maarten introduced a new common currency, the Caribbean guilder. The first banknote series was issued on 31st March 2025 and was immediately awarded the prize for Best New Series of 2025 by the Latin American High Security Printing Conference.
The front sides of the banknotes depict the Caribbean’s marine wildlife. The back sides are designed vertically and show landscapes and landmarks of the islands. Particularly impressive are the banknotes’ state-of-the-art security features, such as the details that become visible under UV light.
Curaçao and Sint Maarten were formerly part of the Netherlands Antilles and have been autonomous countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands since 2010.
