The Burundi Giant Banknote was auctioned off for 9,000 Dollars
At the Stack’s Bowers auction house, the world’s largest banknote found a new owner for no less than 9,000 US-Dollars. The final bid was thus well over double the estimated price range of 2,000–4,000 US-Dollars. It was one of the notes with official PMG® grading. In September 2025, the Giant Banknote was certified by PMG® with the highest possible grade of 70 EPQ*.
In total, the Bank of Burundi issued only 1,000 copies of the 10,000-franc commemorative banknote, with Mietens & Partner GmbH serving as the exclusive distribution partner. The occasion was the 50th anniversary of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
