On 31^st March 2025, the Bank of Zambia introduced both new banknotes and coins, although the coins had already been minted in 2024. For the first time, the coin set includes a 2 kwacha denomination and the country's first bimetallic circulation coin. 

While the reverses show the national coat of arms of Zambia, the obverses depict an elephant, a Zambian barbet (an endemic bird species), a roan antelope and a lion. For additional protection against counterfeiting, the two largest denominations feature latent images.
