Zambia's new coin set has arrived

The new coins from the country on the Zambezi River not only feature beautiful motifs of the native wildlife, but also state-of-the-art latent images

On 31st March 2025, the Bank of Zambia introduced both new banknotes and coins, although the coins had already been minted in 2024. For the first time, the coin set includes a 2 kwacha denomination and the country's first bimetallic circulation coin.

While the reverses show the national coat of arms of Zambia, the obverses depict an elephant, a Zambian barbet (an endemic bird species), a roan antelope and a lion. For additional protection against counterfeiting, the two largest denominations feature latent images.
