The program “The Chronicle of Humankind“ focuses on the history of cultures and empires from the ancient world to the modern era. Particularly fascinating periods are depicted through 60 coins, visually supported by historical paintings or maps of the respective territories. The collection includes 36 silver coins, six billon coins and one gold coin.

While some of the coins portrait the respective rulers who minted them, other coins with symbolic motifs are a window into the culture and society of the historical empires. The shape of coins has also changed many times throughout history. For example, in addition to round coins, so-called wire money, ingots or even coins made from empty bullet casings were also produced.
