Euro Coin Sets
The Euro is the second most traded currency after the US Dollar and the second largest reserve currency in the world. It is therefore of great importance not only for Europe but also internationally.
The introduction of the Euro was more than 20 years ago and the Eurozone is constantly expanding to include new members. The era of the common currency began with the 12 pioneering states of Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. Although the Euro was only introduced as cash in 2002, some of the first sets are dated 1999. It was decided beforehand that the designs on all the reverse sides should be identical and that each country would present specific motifs on the obverses. After only the 15 EU member states of 2002 were initially shown on the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins, the images were replaced by maps of the entire European continent in 2007 and 2008. The national sides of all eight coins in a set can have the same design, as in the case of Ireland, or eight different ones, as in the case of the Italian coins.
